The "Fat Tax"

I just finished an article dealing with the governments idea for a tax on fattening foods and drinks such as soda, energy drinks, juices, and chocolate milk. The tax could be easily applied to snack foods and chips. The money raised from the tax would be used to help pay for the new health care plan. The cigarette tax is believed to have helped reduce the number of smokers and the number of deaths from lung cancer maybe a tax on unhealthy foods will cut down the rates of obesity and diabetes especially in children and young adults.

Slow down when you eat

I was having lunch with a friend yesterday and he commented how fast he was eating compared to me. I have learned to slow down when I eat in order to get the very weak signal that I am reaching the point of being full. It Take 15-20 minutes for the signal that you are full to reach your brain from your stomach. Eating slower allows you to get the feeling and stop before you overeat! Try it!
It works!!

Children and Teens need help

A recent article noted that one in five American 4 year-olds are obese. That's right obese, not just overweight . A four year old is not out buying their own food and their habits are learned from their parents. Please be mindful of the habits you pass on to your children. Habits formed during childhood last a lifetime. Make them healthy habits!!

Vitamin D better health and weight loss

I have come across a number of articles lately discussing the importance of Vitamin D. Many people are deficient in this sunshine vitamin. Most of us do not get enough sun light to produce enough vitamin D. The articles recommend that people should add a 1000mg vitamin D supplement daily to improve bone health, reduce depression and help with weight loss. Vitamin D is safe for most people so consider adding a dose daily! My wife and I do!!

The weather and food choices

I find that when the weather is gloomy as it has been for the past few weeks I have to work harder at making good decisions concerning what I eat and my exercise routine. I find myself craving more comfort foods such as pasta and pizza and I also find it more difficult to keep up my exercise routine. I work through these days by allowing myself a little more high calorie foods and cutting my exercise to 2-3 days/week rather than 3-4 days as usual. Managing a healthy weight is a balancing act even when it comes to the weather.

Exercise and weight loss

I accomplished my 100 pound weight loss by reducing my daily calories. My exercise during weight loss was simply walking while I was teaching my high school class rather than sitting. Running off the the gym to exercise without reducing your daily calories will not lead to long term weight loss success. Exercise will help keep weight off but don't count on it alone to lose weight.

Keep weight off

Hi all, I successfully lost over 100 pounds 7 years ago and I'm always asked how do I keep it off. It really is very simple! I step on the scale every morning without fail and if my weight is going up I simple cut back on my food and drink. I give myself a 3 pound range, up or down. I party when it's down and cut back when it's up. I tell the people following my " Focused Lifestyle" that they will get to enjoy the balancing act. The rewards of reaching and maintaining a healthy weight are well worth the effort.
